(Criminal)Couture

This work is based on hundreds of phone conversations had by Corzell & Emily during a 3year artistic collaboration. The play references the 30 minute “prison phone call. However, a call that roams in and out of reality into realms of poetic expression, systemic critique, and personal narrative. The two friends explore surreal escape plans, business ideas, dreams/nightmares and muddle over day to day activities that incarcerated people enact in order to maintain some connection to the outside.

This exhibition highlights the fashion, art, and poetry works of incarcerated artists as well as personal drawings and words. We have been archiving this work for over the last 2+ years. We are ready to share it with the world beyond the prison wall! The work explores the role of personal relationships, fantasy, and narrative in association to activism and prison abolition.
